PANAJI: Twin sisters Galya and Leoma Fernandes, Anushri Naik and Samaira Soares have moved into the finals at the Bambolim Beach Resort State TT championship Peddem.
In the girls U15 semi-finals, Galya snatched an exciting 3-1 (8-11, 11-6, 11-9, 13-11) win over Ruchi Kirtani while Leoma eased her way to a 3-0 (13-11, 11-5, 11-6) win over Riya Gopi in the other semis. In the girl’s U19 section, the first semis was contested between the two sisters, with Leoma emerging in front. She won 11-9, 9-11, 12-10, and 12-10 to prevail with a 3-1 win over Galya. Anushri Naik cruised past Neeja Kamat, winning the other semis by 3-0 (11-7, 11-8, 11-8). Galya reversed the result in the girls U17 category with an exciting 3-1 (11-7, 11-8, 10-12, 11-9) win over Leoma.
The other semis was an edge-of-the-seat thriller where Samaira Soares emerged victorious at the expense of Urvi Surlakar. Down by two sets, Samaira came back strongly to register a 3-2 (8-11, 7-11, 11-5, 11-9, 11-3) win.
The concluding ranking championship of the season has been organised by the Goa Table Tennis Association in collaboration with the Sports Authority of Goa (SAG) and the North Goa Table Tennis Development Council and powered by Bambolim Beach Resort.
