PANAJI: All the five accused in the Cansaulim gang rape have been remanded to seven days police custody.
The accused persons are Adil (18), Mohammed Ali Mulla (22), Shahzad (18), Viresh (18) and Mohammed Yasir (18).
“Several squads carried out multiple raids. Five cell phones and the car that was used for the crime have been linked. The inquiry is still under progress. All of the suspects have been placed under seven days of police custody on remand,” the police said
Police sources also said that victim is in her twenties and she had previously received therapy for a mental illness and had been taking medicine for a while.
“She confided in her mother after the incident because she was confused and anxious, and she told the police about it. Her statement is being recorded, and her medical examination was performed in accordance with protocol,” police added
The accused persons namely Adil, Ali, Shahzad, Viresh, and Yasir acting with their common intention, committed an offence in which Adil, enticed and befriended the mentally unsound girl (name withheld), abducted her from the Margao KTC bus stand and travelled in bus till Vasco Bus Stand.
Thereafter, accused Adil used a scooter and made the victim girl sit pillion and travelled to Dabolim Junction, where the other four accused persons namely Ali, Shahzad, Viresh and Yasir joined them in their four-wheeler Baleno car.
The information further states that all five accused persons then took the victim to a flat in Cansaulim in a four-wheeler car, where Adil engaged in sexual intercourse with the complainant’s daughter, followed by the other accused persons participating in the act one after another, thereby gang-raping her by exploiting her vulnerable condition.
The police have registered an offence under Section 138, 70(1) and Section 64(1) (k) (m) of the BNS Act 2023.
