COLVALE: Colvale Police have successfully foiled a bid to smuggle ganja into the Central Jail at Colvale, arresting three youth and detaining a minor in connection with the case.
Acting under the supervision of Superintendent of Police (North) Rahul Gupta, SDPO Mapusa Wilson D’Souza, and PI Sanjit Kandolkar, the operation was carried out in the early hours of June 25 following a detailed investigation.
The case was initially reported on June 15 by the Deputy Superintendent of Central Jail, who submitted a suspicious envelope to the Colvale Police Station. According to the report, on the morning of June 14, Sentry PC Prashant Naik noticed seven brown ball-like objects lying between the inner and outer cordon walls near Watch Towers No. 3 and 4. These objects were later found to contain dried greenish leafy and flowery substances with fruiting tops, suspected to be ganja, weighing approximately 1.397 kilograms and valued at ₹1.4 lakh.
Based on technical surveillance and investigation, police identified and arrested Gautam Talwar (24) and Samuel Pujari (24), both residents of Ansabhat, Mapusa, along with Jaffer Mulla (24) from Khorlim, Mapusa. A minor involved in the incident was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) and handed over to his parents with instructions to appear before the board on June 26.
Police revealed that the accused had thrown the contraband into the jail premises during the early hours of June 14 in an attempt to supply it to an inmate. A case under Section 20(b)(ii)(B) of the NDPS Act, 1985 has been registered, and further investigation is currently in progress.
