Canacona: A 23-year-old man from Gaondongrim sustained critical injuries after he was allegedly assaulted by three of his cousins using an iron rod and a sharp weapon in Canacona on Sunday afternoon.
The injured youth has been identified as Madhu Zore (23). The attack reportedly took place at Fulamol in Gaondongrim following a family-related dispute. During the assault, the victim suffered a severe cut injury to his hand and head trauma, resulting in heavy bleeding.
Madhu was initially taken to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Chaudi. As his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to the South Goa District Hospital in Margao and subsequently referred to the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim, where he is stated to be in a critical condition.
Family members of the victim told mediapersons outside the Canacona Police Station that the incident was triggered earlier when a local farmer approached Madhu regarding a missing buffalo. Madhu reportedly accompanied the farmer to the residence of his cousin, Bombo Zore, in connection with the matter.
It was alleged that during the visit, another cousin, Deepak Zore, threatened Madhu, took away his mobile phone, and refused to return it. When Madhu and his brothers later questioned this act, a heated argument ensued.
During the altercation, Bombo Zore, Janu Zore, and Deepak Zore allegedly attacked Madhu with an iron rod and a koita, leaving him seriously injured. Police and emergency services were alerted immediately, and the injured youth was rushed to hospital.
Sources said Canacona police promptly detained all three accused and subsequently registered an FIR in the matter. Further investigation is in progress.
