MORMUGAO: In a significant development, MPA Chairman Dr. N. Vinod Kumar has assured that the gates installed near the Up Ramp and Down Ramp at Baina will remain open 24 hours for public access. The decision follows a meeting between a delegation of locals, led by Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar, and the MPA Chairman.
Speaking to the media, Amonkar revealed that the delegation had also met Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant on Tuesday evening, along with Vasco and Mormugao MLAs, to discuss the matter.
“We met CM Dr. Pramod Sawant yesterday, and he immediately spoke to the Collector regarding the issue. Today, we met the MPA Chairman, who assured us that while the gates are installed for port security in case of an emergency, they will remain open for public access at all times without any restrictions,” said Amonkar.
In addition, Amonkar informed that he had requested the MPA to allocate 200 square meters of land for installing a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Headland Sada, to which the MPA has agreed.
“We have also secured a new access route to the fort, which was previously through the MPA. Soon, restoration work on the fort will begin. Moreover, the MPA has agreed to lease the Viceroy’s Palace to the Goa Government for 99 years, and work on its restoration will commence soon,” he added.
Amonkar also expressed his gratitude to CM Dr. Pramod Sawant for the cabinet’s approval of a 20-bedded hospital at Sada.
“The cabinet has decided to allocate 4,000 square meters of land for this project, which will significantly improve healthcare facilities in the region,” Amonkar concluded.
