FARMAGUDI: Following his removal from the Goa cabinet in a politically charged move on Goa Revolution Day, MLA and former Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude issued a sharp response, claiming he was “rewarded” for standing up for the marginalised.
In a strongly-worded message posted on social media, Gaude remarked, “This decision, taken on Goa Revolution Day, is my reward for defending the rights of the downtrodden.” He thanked the ruling BJP and the state government, saying the development had helped him choose between “truth and power.”
Known for his outspoken advocacy for tribal rights and rural upliftment, Gaude has recently become a vocal critic of the ruling dispensation, particularly over its handling of tribal welfare and community-centric governance.
Despite news of his removal being widely circulated, Gaude revealed that he had not been officially informed. “I haven’t received any formal intimation. I saw the notification on the Department of Information and Publicity’s website, and then chose to respond,” he said.
Gaude also stated that he plans to address the media soon and will offer a more detailed response on the issue.
His ouster follows recent tensions within the government, including his public allegations of bribery and inefficiency in the Tribal Welfare Department, which is under Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. The remarks had drawn sharp reactions from the BJP leadership.
