New Delhi:
On Monday, in New Delhi, Gautam Adani, the Chairman of the Adani Group, held a significant meeting with Israeli Ambassador to India, Reuven Azar, and his wife Rachel Azar, along with other key officials. The discussions centered around enhancing India-Israel collaboration, particularly in the realms of economic and defence partnerships.
Adani took to the X social media platform to express his commitment to expanding the group’s partnership with Israel. “Honoured to meet with Israeli Ambassador H.E. @ReuvenAzar and Mrs Rachel Azar, along with their team. We had productive discussions on supporting India-Israel collaboration, especially regarding the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) and defence partnerships,” he posted.
The Adani Group’s acquisition of the Haifa Port in Israel for $1.2 billion in 2023 was highlighted as a cornerstone of their enduring partnership. Haifa Port, the second largest in Israel for shipping containers and the largest for tourist cruise ships, plays a crucial role in this collaboration.
The IMEC, launched during India’s G20 presidency, aims to integrate India, Europe, and the Middle East through strategic routes involving the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Israel, and the European Union. This initiative is expected to enhance India’s maritime security and facilitate faster and more secure movement of goods between Europe and Asia.
Adani Ports, the largest port developer and operator in India, manages seven strategically located ports and terminals on the west coast and eight on the east coast, accounting for 27% of the country’s total port volumes. The company is also developing a transhipment port in Colombo and Container Terminal 2 at Dar Es Salaam Port in Tanzania.
