New Delhi: India head coach Gautam Gambhir lauded the efforts of Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli after India’s dominant chase in the third ODI against Australia, where the hosts sealed the series with a convincing performance. The highlight of the match was the vintage brilliance of Rohit and Kohli, who combined for an unbeaten 168-run partnership for the second wicket, guiding India to a comfortable victory while chasing 237.
In his post-match address to the team in the dressing room, Gambhir first praised the solid opening stand between Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, who added 69 runs for the first wicket and laid a perfect foundation for the chase. He described the partnership as “very important” in stabilizing the innings early on.
Gambhir then turned his attention to the match-winning partnership between Rohit and Kohli, calling it “outstanding” and commending both batters for staying unbeaten till the end. He emphasized how finishing games was a key aspect of India’s batting approach and said the team had executed it “clinically” in this match.
Rohit, who scored a magnificent century his 33rd in ODIs was named Player of the Series for his consistent performances across all three matches. Kohli, on the other hand, found form at the right time, registering a fluent fifty after enduring two consecutive ducks earlier in the series.
Speaking after the game, Rohit hinted that this might be the duo’s final series in Australia, acknowledging the emotional significance of the occasion. With upcoming fixtures at home against South Africa, both senior batters are expected to focus on maintaining their rhythm and fitness.
Gambhir’s words reflected a sense of satisfaction and pride in the team’s composed approach to the chase, highlighting the blend of experience and execution that defined India’s commanding win over Australia.
