PANAJI: The Goa Bachao Abhiyan (GBA) called for the immediate revocation of the permit for Bhutani project at Sancoale. In a letter to the town and country planning (TCP) department, the GBA flagged several serious violations in the approval process and alleged that the project was cleared despite significant lapses.
The convener of GBA, Sabina Martins, highlighted “gross transgressions” by the project developer, Parmesh Construction Company Ltd.
She pointed out that critical environmental and forest clearances were overlooked, violating both TCP regulations and legal requirements. One of the key concerns of GBA is the absence of an environment clearance, a mandatory step for large projects.
The luxury housing project requires a no objection certificate from the ministry of environment and forests, which was not obtained, said Martins. GBA also flagged the project’s excessive water demand, which would strain the existing water crisis at Sancoale.
“The developer’s request for water is far below the actual need for 685 swimming pools and other facilities,” GBA said. Furthermore, the project was approved on steep slopes exceeding regulatory limits without necessary permissions for hill cutting or access roads.
