PANAJI: The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) to draft exam papers for Class IX for the core subjects like -languages, mathematics, science and social science from the current academic year onwards.
The development comes as a part of implementation of National Education Policy (NEP) for class IX.
In a circular issued, the Board said that the Class IX exam will be conducted in two semesters covering 10 subjects — core subjects like the 3 languages, mathematics, science and social science and elective subjects of interdisciplinary approach, art education, vocational and physical education.
The Board said that the question paper will comprise of 50 per cent multiple choice questions and 50 per cent subjectiv.
“Students failing in one or two core subjects will be declared pass if they score 80 per cent marks in one or two internal subjects assessment (or elective) subjects and minimum 50 per cent marks in the rest of the internal assessment subject,” the Board said.
While students will not be entitled for any condonation marks, sports merit marks would be considered and to qualify for the benefit, sports candidate will have to secure at least 10 per cent marks in external component of the board. After adding the sports merit marks, the total score must be at least 33 per cent in the subjects, including internal assessment.
Board clarified that the Sports merit marks cannot be utilised to pass a subject where the candidate has failed to meet the minimum requirement.
