MARGAO: The Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) has expressed serious concern over the worsening state of roads, unsafe intersections, and insufficient traffic management in South Goa, warning that these challenges are affecting both residents’ quality of life and the efficiency of trade operations.
A GCCI delegation, led by Logistics Committee Chairman Chandrakant Gawas, submitted a detailed memorandum to South Goa Collector Egna Cleema, IAS, highlighting urgent infrastructure and safety issues requiring immediate attention.
The delegation pointed out incomplete repair work on the Goa–Belgaum Road via Anmod. While welcoming the partial reopening of this crucial trade route, GCCI urged authorities to accelerate pending repairs, especially a damaged three-metre stretch at Ramnagar.
The Verna junction was identified as a high-risk accident zone, prompting the Chamber to call for dedicated traffic police presence, stricter speed enforcement, and improved road signage. Additionally, concerns were raised about the deteriorating condition of the Old Borim Bridge, with requests for updates on new construction plans while ensuring proper maintenance of the existing bridge.
The trade body also recommended setting up truck termini in both South and North Goa to reduce highway congestion, curbing the indiscriminate disposal of garbage along major routes, and enhancing marine safety through post-monsoon vessel inspections.
Collector Cleema assured the delegation that all concerns would be reviewed in coordination with the relevant departments, reaffirming the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and road safety in the region.
