Panaji: In the vibrant cricket scene of Goa, two significant victories marked the day’s proceedings at the Goa University Inter-Collegiate Cricket Men Championship for the 2024-25 season.
The matches saw Goa College of Engineering (GEC) and Goa Medical College (GMC) emerge as winners against their respective opponents.
First Match: GEC vs. St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa
GEC took on St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa, in a closely contested match. St. Xavier’s won the toss and chose to bowl first, a decision that seemed strategic given the conditions. However, GEC managed to post a competitive total of 120/7 in 20 overs, thanks to Atchut Dalal’s unbeaten 40 off 42 balls and Narayan Sawant’s 24 off 20. Vedant Chandekar from St. Xavier’s picked up two wickets for 11 runs. In response, St. Xavier’s could only muster 112 runs in 18 overs, with Harsh Bhagat top-scoring with 29 off 29 balls. Narayan Sawant proved to be the game-changer, taking four wickets for 20 runs, while Prabhakar Shetye supported with three wickets for 11 runs.
Second Match: GMC vs. P.E.S. College, Farmagudi
In the second match of the day, GMC faced off against P.E.S. College, Farmagudi. P.E.S. won the toss and opted to bat first, scoring 108/6 in 18 overs. Sagar Gaude and Siddharth Shirodkar contributed significantly with 26 off 20 and 21 off 14 balls, respectively. Arsh Sardessai from GMC was impressive with three wickets for 22 runs.
