Panaji: The Goa Football Development Council conducted its first meeting under newly appointed Chairman Glenn Ticlo, marking the beginning of a renewed approach to football development in the state. The session outlined a broad vision aimed at strengthening grassroots programmes, improving infrastructure and building professional expertise within the sport.
Members of the council discussed several important initiatives intended to bring greater structure to football activities across Goa. A key proposal involved the appointment of a Technical Director who would guide development programmes and maintain consistent technical standards in all GFDC projects. Plans were also reviewed for establishing dedicated North and South academies to provide systematic training opportunities for young players from different regions.
Considerable attention was given to upgrading existing football infrastructure and ensuring access to quality equipment. The council emphasised the need for regular workshops for coaches along with programmes for licence enhancement and continuous education. Improving coaching quality was identified as a central element in raising the overall standard of the game in Goa.
The meeting further examined ways to strengthen the GFDC workforce. Evaluation of current coaches and recruitment of new professionals with long term commitment to youth development were discussed as necessary steps to build a capable support system for players.
Addressing the gathering, Chairman Glenn Ticlo highlighted the importance of creating a sustainable football environment in the state. He stated that the objective was to put effective systems in place covering technical leadership, facilities and coaching so that Goan footballers receive the best possible guidance from an early age.
He also underlined the need to expand opportunities beyond major centres. The proposed academies in the northern and southern parts of Goa, he explained, would help decentralise training and ensure that talented youngsters from every corner of the state are able to progress without limitations.
Speaking on the role of mentors, Ticlo described coaches as the foundation of football growth. He reiterated the council commitment to organise regular training workshops, upgrade licences and introduce performance assessments while welcoming new and enthusiastic coaches who share the vision for Goan football.
The Goa Football Development Council concluded the meeting with a renewed pledge to work closely with all stakeholders and take concrete steps toward elevating the sport to higher levels in the years ahead.
