PANAJI: Amid concerns arising from recent prohibitory orders issued by District Magistrates regarding entry into waterfalls and water bodies during the monsoon season, the Forest Department has clarified that regulated tourism activities at designated ecotourism sites will continue as planned.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the department stated that waterfalls falling under its jurisdiction will remain open to tourists as part of the Monsoon Tourism initiative being promoted jointly with the Goa Forest Development Corporation (GFDC).
These activities will be conducted under the strict supervision of forest staff and lifeguards deployed to ensure the safety of visitors.
“All safety measures, including the provision of life jackets and the deployment of trained personnel, are in place. Entry to the waterfalls and trekking trails will be through identified check gates where basic amenities will also be made available,” the statement read.
The Forest Department urged the general public not to be confused by the DM orders, clarifying that guided monsoon tourism activities, including trekking and visits to forest waterfalls, are not restricted.
These activities are being carried out in a controlled and safe manner with all necessary precautions.
This clarification comes amid rising public concern following reports of accidents at unregulated water bodies. The department reiterated its commitment to promoting safe and sustainable tourism during the monsoon season.
