Panaji: Goa Football Development Council’s (GFDC) Zarme Football coaching centre celebrated its 10th anniversary with the distribution of football kits to trainees.
A total of 62 kits were distributed to the children.
Present were Chief Guest Dr. Deviya Rane, Poriem MLA and Chairman of Goa Forest Development Council, guest of honour Dr. Geeta S. Nagvenkar, Member Secretary GFDC and Executive Director, Sports Authority of Goa, Devyani Gawas, Zilla Panchayat member, Keri, Sulbha B. Desai, Mauxi Sarpanch, and Gurudas C. Gawas, panch member and Datta Gawas, head of Zarme GFDC centre.
Dr. Rane said that providing adequate training for children today will hold them in good stead.
She also urged parents to motivate and encourage their kids, and also called for upgrading the centres so that children can progress.
“One does not need to travel outside Sattari to Panaji and other places for football training. Our kids in Sattari have more talent than those in the urban areas. When it comes to police training, we have seen that our people from Sattari perform the best. It is important to train children in the 7-8 age bracket. We must mould their talent and it is the responsibility of the training centre and the coaches to guide them with facilities. Then only they will achieve their goals. This is very important,” she said.
“Parents should encourage their children and see that they don’t spend too much time on their mobiles, and rather spend time outdoors. They are the future generation of our village, state and nation and hence the training given to them now will help them move ahead,” she added.
Dr. Nagvenkar lauded the efforts of the coaches and staff of GFDC across the state for taking football to all corners that are bearing results. She also said that there are 2232 trainees, comprising 1600 males and 632 females, who are guided by 66 coaches.
“As Member Secretary, I have personally experienced the support of the government, particularly the Chief Minister and Sports Minister to evolve the state sport and take football to greater heights. This would not have been possible without the efforts of the technical, administrative and support staff. There are 35 centres both in rural and urban areas. The staff are working tirelessly and I appreciate their efforts towards the trainees to make them champions of the future and this is showing results,” she said.
“I appreciate the parents for motivating and inspiring their children to take up sports. This will definitely pay rich dividends as they grow up to shine as confident youth of the nation and with all-round development teamwork and leadership qualities,” she added.
The center is managed by Datta Gawas while the trainees are guided by Coaches Rafiq Bepari and Saif Attar.
“I am proud to state that two girls namely Simran Gawas and Tanvi Gawas represented Goa U14 girls while two boys namely Anmesh Majik and Vithoba Dharne are playing for top Goan clubs,”said Datta Gawas.
