PANJIM: Goa Forward Party (GFP) today has demanded Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant’s resignation over failure to protect states interest in the Mhadei River diversion issue.
Addressing the media, GFP Siolim MLA and former WRD Minister Vinoda Paliencar said, “I accuse the Central Government of surrendering to the demands of Karnataka on the Mhadei issue.”
He said, “As a mark of protest I demand the resignation of Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant’s resignation. We are ready to hit the streets to fight and do justice to our River Mhadei. Centre has taken State for granted.”
Paliencar further said that the recent letter by Union Minister for Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat claims at surrendering to Karnataka’s demand while ignoring Goa’s interest and plea.
Meanwhile, the central government has appointed, National Institute of Rorkee to study the salinity in Mhadei river as demanded by Goa before diversion of water.
