The Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) has taken suo motu cognisance of a media report highlighting poor infrastructure at the Dabolim airport police station, which has reportedly been operating from a temporary tin shed for nearly eight years.
In response, the Commission on Friday issued a notice to the Director General of Police (DGP), Alok Kumar, directing him to submit a detailed reply by July 15. The DGP has also been asked to appear before the Commission on the same day, either personally or through a representative.
The report pointed out that despite several assurances about constructing a permanent police station building, the existing facility continues to function out of the makeshift structure. Around 30 police personnel, including a Police Inspector, Sub-Inspectors, Assistant Sub-Inspectors, head constables and constables, are reportedly posted there.
The tin-roofed structure allegedly suffers from leakage problems, posing a threat to furniture, documents, and day-to-day police operations.
