Margao: Madganvcho Awaaz has strongly extended its support to Calangutecho Awaaz and young progressive farmer Bai Narusha D’Souza, who has emerged as a youth icon in farming through her dedication and grassroots efforts. Emphasising that farming is the backbone of Goa’s economy and culture, youth leader Prabhav Naik said agriculture deserves the highest priority from the government.
Prabhav Naik demanded that the Government of Goa immediately declare farming as a “State Event” to ensure maximum allocation of funds, strong institutional support, and time-bound implementation of farmer-centric schemes. “When farmers prosper, Goa prospers. Any government serious about sustainable development cannot afford to neglect agriculture,” he stated.
Reacting to the appeal made by the young farmer from Calangute to the Panchayat seeking free tractor facilities, Naik said such basic demands reflect the harsh ground reality faced by cultivators. He stressed that instead of burdening farmers with high costs, the government must proactively provide mechanisation, inputs and infrastructure at subsidised or zero cost.
Naik further observed that while youth are willing to take up farming, the lack of policy support, facilities and respect for agriculture is discouraging them. He added that empowering Panchayats to support farmers at the grassroots level is equally important to revive the sector.
Drawing a sharp comparison, Prabhav Naik said the BJP-led government does not hesitate to spend several crores of rupees on events, even granting post-facto approvals. “If such generosity can be shown for short-term spectacles, why not for farming, which ensures food security and livelihoods?” he questioned.
Concluding, Prabhav Naik reiterated his demand for granting “Event Status” to farming, stating that such a move would guarantee priority funding, visibility and urgency in implementation. He added that it would encourage youth participation in agriculture, restore dignity to farmers and help secure Goa’s future.
