BICHOLIM: The Mayem Bhoo Vimochan Nagrik Kriti Samiti has urged the government to give all the sanads by 15th August 2021, failing which they would have to resort to strong agitation.
It may be recalled that the Samiti is fighting for the rights of the Mayem villagers who are under Custodian Act since last many years.
The government in 2014 through a law had tried to abolish the Custodian Act and gave sanads to few. The Samiti claims that the work of the government in giving their rights over the land is going in a slow pace.
On Tuesday, 35 new sanads were giving to the villagers and the Samiti is enraged over the fact that the government authorities are taking too much time to resolve the issue.
“We were thinking that Mayem villagers would get atleast one day when they would be liberated. Every time we were given assurances but nothing was done to resolve the issue once for all”, Samiti president, Rajesh Kalangutkar told.
“Goa completed 75 years of Goa Revolution Day but only 35 sanads were giving on the eve of this day. Nearly seven years have been completed for the law and not even 400 people have got the sanads. If we calculate nearly one thousand days have passed so we can say that one sanad take about 28 days.” Kalangutkar stated.
“We had also demanded for a master plan of Mayem but nothing has happened about this. Today the only question in everyone’s mind is for how many years we will have to live under Portuguese rule” he told.
“We request the government to resolve this issue by August else we would have to intensify our agitation.” He stated.
Sakharam Pednekar said that the MLA should look into the matter and try to speed up the process.
Samiti members including Harishchandra Ghadi; Shamu Hoble and others were present for the press conference.
