New Delhi: India has successfully navigated a series of global disruptions in recent years, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said while addressing the 15th annual convocation of Indian Institute of Management Raipur. He noted that multiple global shocks had tested the country’s resilience, but India managed both domestic and international challenges effectively.
Speaking about the changing global landscape, Jaishankar said the world order is undergoing significant shifts as the balance of power between nations evolves. He pointed out that political systems in several countries are struggling to adapt to these changes, while rapid developments in technology, energy, military capabilities, connectivity, and resources have increased competition among nations.
According to the minister, almost every domain is now being used strategically, and in some cases even weaponised, making the global environment increasingly unpredictable. This shift has compelled countries to focus more on protecting their interests and strengthening their internal capabilities.
Jaishankar highlighted that India’s outlook remains optimistic despite these uncertainties. He attributed this confidence to the country’s strong performance over the past decade, which has reinforced the belief that future growth will continue. India’s rise as one of the world’s top five economies reflects this momentum and resilience in the face of global pressures.
He also emphasised the importance of inclusive growth, representative governance, and decisive leadership in strengthening the nation’s foundation. The minister pointed out that India’s enthusiastic embrace of the digital revolution has further enhanced its capacity to manage complex challenges and drive development.
Addressing students and future leaders, Jaishankar stressed the need for India to strengthen its domestic capabilities across critical sectors. He said building and securing national capacities must remain a priority, even though some areas may be more difficult to develop independently.
In such cases, he noted, countries must rely on trusted partnerships and diversified supply sources. However, he underlined that developing strong internal capabilities remains essential for long term stability and growth.
His remarks come at a time when global economic and geopolitical tensions continue to affect energy markets, international travel, and regional security across several parts of the world.
