PANAJI: In a significant development for medical education and healthcare in the state, Goa Medical College (GMC) has received approval to increase the number of postgraduate medical seats in several key disciplines starting from the academic year 2024–25. The announcement was made by Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, who described it as a proud moment for Goa and a step forward in strengthening the state’s healthcare infrastructure. According to the new approval, the MS in Obstetrics & Gynecology program will increase from 6 to 8 seats, MD in Radiodiagnosis from 6 to 7, MD in Pediatrics from 7 to 10, MS in General Surgery from 6 to 15, and MD in Pharmacology from 6 to 10 seats. Minister Rane noted that the expansion of these programs would play a pivotal role in nurturing a robust pipeline of medical professionals and improving access to specialized healthcare services in the region. He expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda for their unwavering support and focus on ensuring “Health for All.” The move is expected to enhance medical education opportunities in Goa while contributing to a more resilient and accessible healthcare system for the state’s citizens.
