PANAJI: Goa Medical College (GMC) has taken a significant step towards strengthening specialised healthcare services with the appointment of senior and consultant doctors to establish a Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplant Unit under the Medical Oncology department.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane announced that Dr. Mahadev Swamy has been appointed as Senior Consultant, while Dr. Nakul Dilip Tikare and Dr. Anura Kantak have joined as Consultants to support the new unit.
“This focused capacity building will help us create a dedicated Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at GMC. It is a major step towards making advanced, quality healthcare accessible and affordable for all Goans, while ensuring that the best medical facilities are available closer to home,” Rane said.
He also expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant for his continued support. “I am grateful to Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant for his guidance and encouragement in strengthening Goa’s healthcare ecosystem,” he added.
The new appointments are expected to significantly enhance GMC’s ability to provide advanced cancer care and specialised blood disorder treatments, reducing the need for patients to travel outside the state for critical procedures.
