BAMBOLIM: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, during a surprise visit to Goa Medical College (GMC) in Bambolim, ordered the immediate suspension of Chief Medical Officer Dr Rudresh Kuttikar for allegedly misbehaving with members of the public.
The action underscores the government’s zero-tolerance approach towards negligence and misconduct in the health sector.
“There needs to be a reshuffle of doctors,” Rane stated, expressing concern over the functioning of the hospital. He emphasized that patient care and public service must remain the top priority.
The Minister also revealed plans to strengthen the healthcare system in Goa through a new deployment scheme. Under this initiative, doctors who complete their bond tenure at GMC will be posted in rural areas to improve medical outreach and availability of specialists in remote locations.
“We are planning a scheme in which doctors, after serving their bond tenure at GMC, can be deployed in rural areas,” he said.
Rane further highlighted steps being taken to support medical professionals, including an increase in the salaries of senior and resident doctors. He reiterated the government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure and ensuring the presence of specialist doctors across the State.
Rane on Saturday inspected the Chicalim Sub-District Hospital, reaffirming the government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure across the State. The visit was part of a broader initiative inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Health for All” vision, and guided by Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda.
To boost kidney care services at the hospital, Rane announced the addition of 10 new dialysis beds. “This expansion will ensure patients receive timely and efficient treatment,” he said, addressing concerns over the growing number of patients requiring dialysis.
With the hospital witnessing a steady increase in footfall, Rane also disclosed that more bond doctors would be deployed in the casualty department to provide uninterrupted emergency services round-the-clock.
During his visit, the Minister interacted with doctors and medical staff, underlining the importance of empathy, efficiency, and excellence in healthcare delivery. “Our goal is to make Chicalim Hospital a model of responsive public healthcare,” he said.
Rane reiterated the government’s commitment to implementing a holistic healthcare system in Goa—one that is rooted in accessibility, quality, and respect for patient dignity. He added that sustained efforts would continue to realize the Prime Minister’s healthcare vision across all institutions in the State.
