PANAJI: With the new mining season set to begin in October, the Goa Mineral Ore Exporters Association (GMOEA) has urged the State government to step in and resolve delays in obtaining essential NOCs and clearances needed to restart iron ore activities.
A delegation led by GMOEA secretary Glen Kalavampara met Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday and submitted a memorandum highlighting issues that continue to slow down the industry’s revival.
Kalavampara told that despite efforts, permissions are being held up, creating hurdles for leaseholders.
He said the CM was briefed that mining operations, which had only recently restarted after years of uncertainty, require consistent government support. Regular review meetings between industry representatives and authorities were suggested to swiftly iron out bottlenecks.
Since 2023, the State has e-auctioned 12 mineral blocks covering 24 mining leases. Of these, nine blocks have secured Environmental Clearance (EC) and three have already commenced fresh operations. The auctioned blocks include Cudnem-Cormolem, Surla-Sonshi, Advalpale-Tivim, Cudnem, Tivim-Pirna, Kalay in Sanguem, Bicholim-Mulgao, Sirigao-Mayem, Monte-de-Sirigao, Curpem-Sulcorna, Onda, and Codli.
