PANAJI: In a distressing trend, the Directorate of Transport’s monthly report for October 2024 reveals that Goa recorded 260 road accidents across the small State, resulting in 17 fatalities and multiple injuries.
The data stresses the need for stricter road safety measures and increased public awareness to address the rising accident rates.
As per the report, there were 260 road accidents of which 17 were Fatal Accidents (North Goa – 11 and South Goa – 6), 16 Grievous Accidents (North Goa – 10 and South Goa – 6), 47 Minor Accidents (North Goa – 22 and South Goa – 25) and 180 Non – Injury Accidents (North Goa – 114 and South Goa – 66).
The total number of persons who lost their lives in road accidents were 17 (North Goa – 11 and South Goa – 6), 26 people were Grievously Injured (North – 19 and South –7) while 78 persons suffered Minor Injuries (North – 37, South – 41).
Of those who lost their lives 11 were Riders (North Goa – 7 and South Goa – 4), 3 P/Riders (North Goa – 3 and South Goa – 0).
To enforce road safety regulations and improve adherence, the Transport Directorate issued a substantial 13,457 challans for various violations.
This number reflects the State’s efforts to curb traffic offences and reduce risky behaviours on the road, though the accident statistics highlight ongoing challenges in road safety.
