BICHOLIM: Goa has achieved 50% self-sufficiency in vegetable and flower production, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant announced, urging farmers to utilize fallow land for cultivating fodder.
The CM highlighted that the government spends crores of rupees on importing fodder and warned that if the current generation avoids farming, future generations may also shy away from agriculture.
Speaking on local production, CM Sawant noted that for this year’s Dussehra festival, half of the flowers came from Karnataka, while the remaining half were grown by local Goan farmers.
Additionally, he said that 40% of the vegetables sold by the Horticulture Department are produced by local farmers, emphasizing the importance of supporting homegrown agriculture.
In another announcement, CM Sawant stated that forms under the ‘Mhaje Ghar Scheme’ will be distributed from Monday onwards.
He will also chair a meeting with authorities to streamline the regularization process under the scheme, aimed at assisting residents with housing formalities.
