Dhargal: In a shocking act of retaliation, a man arrested for throwing acid on a minor boy in Dhargal on Monday morning has told police he committed the attack out of revenge over the death of his daughter.
According to Goa Police, the accused, identified as Nilesh, was taken into custody hours after the incident, which occurred around 7:50 a.m. at a local bus stop where the 17-year-old victim was waiting to leave for college.
Police said Nilesh fled the scene on a two-wheeler and went into hiding at his workplace in IDC Karaswada, Mapusa. Acting on specific inputs, a team from Pernem Police Station traced and arrested him from the industrial estate later the same day.
During interrogation, Nilesh reportedly confessed that he held the victim responsible for his daughter’s “unnatural” death about a month ago. The case related to the girl’s death is currently under investigation by Sindhudurg Police.
Police sources said the accused claimed the victim had been in a relationship with his daughter and that he suspected the boy’s involvement in the circumstances leading to her demise. Driven by this belief, Nilesh planned the assault and procured the chemical used in the attack from the company where he works.
Investigators have seized both the chemical substance and the two-wheeler used to execute the crime.
The victim, a first-year college student, sustained serious burn injuries and is undergoing treatment. His condition was reported to be stable at the time of filing this report.
Senior officers said further forensic examination of the seized material is underway while police are coordinating with Sindhudurg authorities to probe the background of the suspect’s allegations.
The incident has sparked outrage and renewed calls for stricter enforcement of laws regulating the sale and storage of corrosive substances.
