PANAJI: Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant chaired a high-level meeting at Mantralaya today to evaluate the implementation of the Prime Minister’s Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PM-SGMBY) in Goa. The ambitious program aims to promote rooftop solar energy adoption across the state to support clean and affordable power for citizens.
Goa’s targets under PM-SGMBY include installing 21,200 rooftop solar systems by 2027, generating 65 megawatts of green energy, and ensuring access to sustainable electricity for poor and middle-class families.
So far, the state has made steady progress, with over 4,700 feasibility approvals granted, installations generating 7.34 MW of solar power, and subsidies totaling ₹4.28 crores released to beneficiaries.
Key action points discussed included fast-tracking the onboarding of contractors who commit to 25-year maintenance contracts, promoting large-scale rooftop solar projects across new and existing buildings such as hotels, government offices, and residential complexes, and integrating older schemes like the Goa Vinamulya Vidyut Yojana (GVVYJ) under PM-SGMBY.
The meeting emphasized mandatory rooftop solar installations in selected sectors as part of Goa’s drive towards clean energy and Net Zero carbon emission goals.
