Panaji: Goa took a decisive step towards becoming an AI-led state under its Goa AI Mission 2027 with the event “AI for Governance & Social Impact: Leveraging Technology for Inclusive, Responsible, and Sustainable Public Systems.”
Organised by the Department of Information Technology, Electronics & Communications (DITE&C) in collaboration with the Goa Institute of Management (GIM) and IndiaAI Mission, the event brought together government leaders, academia, and global industry experts to discuss how Artificial Intelligence can strengthen governance while ensuring inclusivity and sustainability.
A key highlight was the signing of an MoU between DITE&C and the Digital India Bhashini Division (MeitY) to introduce multilingual AI solutions across Goa’s public systems. This initiative aims to make governance more inclusive and accessible for citizens, breaking barriers of language and background.
The event was inaugurated by IT Minister Rohan A. Khaunte, along with DITEC Director Kabir Shirgaonkar, GIM Director Dr. Ajit Parulekar, DIBD CEO Amitabh Nag, and IndiaAI Mission COO Kavita Bhatia. Senior government officials and heads of departments were also in attendance.
Minister Khaunte underlined the human-first approach of the state’s AI journey, saying:
“AI is not just a buzzword—it must remain human-centric. With the Goa AI Mission 2027, we are building skills, empowering startups, creating capital support, and strengthening infrastructure. Our focus is on capacity building, ethical and responsible AI, and turning innovation into impact.”
He further emphasised that the mission is a shared effort, where AI goes beyond efficiency to deliver creativity, inclusivity, and transformative impact.
Panel sessions featured perspectives from IFC World Bank Group, Google Cloud, UNESCO, AI Transformation, Practical Action, and Sarvam AI, exploring equity in governance, the role of Generative AI, and global frameworks for assessing AI readiness.
By weaving AI into governance frameworks, Goa is positioning itself as a model AI-led state in India, strengthening its innovation ecosystem while ensuring that technology delivers real impact for its citizens.
