SANKHALI: Chief Minister and Finance Minister Pramod Sawant highlighted that over the past three years, 33% of Goa’s state budget has been dedicated to a gender-focused initiative aimed at promoting women’s empowerment, self-reliance, and independence. He noted that the effort has received recognition from UN Women.
Addressing a discussion at Ravindra Bhavan, Sankhali, organised by the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) in collaboration with Ravindra Bhavan, Sawant said Goa ranks second in the country for financial management. He added that over the last seven years, he has consistently presented a high-quality, inclusive budget addressing the needs of all sections of society.
Several speakers, including GCCI President Pratima Dhond, Director General Sanjay Amonkar, agriculturist Namdev Gawas, Varad Samant, Rohan Bhandare, Dr. Manoj Kamat, and Dr. Shekhar Salkar, praised the budget for its inclusivity and focus on social justice.
“The budget fosters inclusive growth, empowers women, creates new opportunities, supports student startups, and strengthens key sectors like tourism, agriculture, and culture,” Dhond said.
CM Sawant, who returned to Goa from Pune on Saturday night, resumed official duties on Sunday morning with routine public interactions and later attended a Janata Darbar at Ravindra Bhavan, Sankhali.
