PANAJI: Goa is rapidly emerging as a promising centre for rugby, with the state’s tourism authorities extending full support to strengthen its international sports presence. Brandan Crasto, who leads the Goa 7s tournament and heads the Crocotryles Rugby Foundation, highlighted rugby’s ability to contribute significantly to the state’s economy. He noted that the tournament’s partnership with Goa Tourism reflects a shared belief in the sport’s long-term potential. According to him, the event is drawing increasing interest from around the world, which can translate into substantial gains for local businesses and the broader tourism sector. Crasto explained that teams from countries such as Nepal and South Africa are already part of the competition, and enquiries have come in from several other nations. He emphasised that greater financial backing would allow Goa to fully harness the sport’s capacity to attract international attention and establish the state as a premier destination for sports-focused travellers.

Having travelled to the state to coach and train, he said he was struck by its climate, beaches and hospitality.
