PANAJI: Goa has achieved a proud milestone by being honoured with the “Most Accessible State Award” by Svayam, India’s leading accessibility organisation, in collaboration with UNESCO and the CII Foundation, at the National Accessibility Summit held in New Delhi.
Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phal Dessai represented the Government of Goa and received the award on behalf of the state. This marks a historic first, as Goa becomes the first state in India to receive this prestigious recognition for its consistent efforts in promoting accessibility across infrastructure, sports, tourism, and public spaces.
The award acknowledges Goa’s sustained initiatives to make the state more inclusive and barrier-free. Flagship events such as the International Purple Fest – the Celebration of Inclusivity have been key in promoting awareness, empowerment, and equal participation of persons with disabilities.
Expressing gratitude, the minister thanked Svayam, UNESCO, and the CII Foundation for recognising Goa’s commitment to accessibility and inclusion. “This achievement strengthens our resolve to build an inclusive, barrier-free, and compassionate Goa, ensuring dignity and equal access for every citizen,” he said.
