PANAJI: The Goa government has announced a crackdown on tourists from neighboring states who bring gas cylinders, cooking equipment, and other materials to prepare food on the roadside.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has declared that this practice, which has led to widespread littering and environmental concerns, will no longer be tolerated.
Under the new directive, tourists found violating this rule will face severe consequences, including the seizure of their equipment and strict legal action.
“The move aims to maintain the cleanliness and beauty of Goa’s roads and public spaces, which have been increasingly affected by unauthorized roadside cooking,” said Sawant
“We cannot allow tourists to misuse public spaces and leave behind garbage. Strict action will be taken against violators,” CM Sawant stated, emphasizing the need to protect Goa’s environment and public hygiene.
Authorities have been instructed to monitor popular tourist areas and take immediate action against offenders. The government is also urging visitors to respect local laws and use designated dining facilities instead of setting up makeshift kitchens on roadsides.
This step is part of Goa’s larger effort to regulate tourism and ensure that the state remains a clean and welcoming destination for all.
