PANAJI: Goa has set a new national benchmark by becoming the fastest state in India for issuing normal (non-Tatkal) passports, with applicants receiving their documents in as little as four to five working days.
Data from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) shows that the Regional Passport Office (RPO) in Goa has outperformed all other cities in the country, delivering passports within just four working days after police verification—well ahead of the standard timelines under the Passport Seva Program, which allows up to 30 working days for normal passport issuance, excluding police verification time.
Goa leads a list of six top-performing cities for passport delivery. Kerala follows closely, with passport offices in Kochi and Kozhikode issuing normal passports within approximately five working days after verification.
Despite handling a large volume of applications, Mumbai has streamlined its processes efficiently, providing normal passports generally within 7-14 working days. The city’s performance is considered impressive given the high demand.
Other major cities such as Chennai and Bengaluru also rank among the fastest. Chennai processes normal passports in 9-15 working days, while Bengaluru, benefiting from the Passport Seva 2.0 program and better coordination with state police, completes issuance in around 8-16 working days.
The MEA’s data highlights how several Indian cities are surpassing national benchmarks, with Goa emerging as a clear leader in efficient passport delivery.
