PONDA: Gomantak Bhandari Samaj has claimed injustice on OBC in the Sakhalim, Ponda Municipality reservation.
The leader says injustice to the OBC community as the number of ward reservations is reduced for them and demands to restore the reservation.
The State Election Commission has declared the reservation of wards for the Ponda Municipal Council Election (PMC).OBC Community is unhappy over curtailing reservations from four wards to two wards for PMC, and at Sakhalim Muncipalty, the reservation from three reserved seats to two and demanded that OBC be restored to 27 per cent.
Gomantak Bhandari Samaj President Ashok Naik said the Election Commission has done injustice to other backward classes while reserving Ponda and Sakhlim Municipality.
He said if this has happened by mistake, it should be amended, and four wards be reserved for PMC, similarly three reserved seats for Sakhlim Municipality.
Ashok Naik said the Election Commission has reserved two wards for Ponda Municipality and two for Sakhlim Municipality. The previous 27 per cent reservation should obviously be kept at least this time, But it needs to be understood by what criteria the State Election Commission has reduced the number of wards. Whenever a reservation is given to other backward classes, injustice is done.
If the population of Other Backward Classes had declined, we would have understood that reservation had declined but reducing the wards even as the population has increased is unfair, Naik said.
The Election Commission should review the reservation. A new ward has to be reserved.’
Rashtriya OBC Mahasang Goa State Convenor Madu Naik said OBC those MLAs elected on OBC votes should fight for OBC rights.
The government should immediately think about this and give justice to backward classes. Naik demanded that the Election Commission should reconsider the decision.
