PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has announced that Goa’s traditional Konkani stage art, Tiatr, is on track to receive national recognition. Highlighting the art form’s popularity across 28 countries, Sawant said that efforts are being made to ensure it gets the cultural importance it deserves at the national level. He also noted that Goa University is currently conducting in-depth research into the history and evolution of Tiatr.
Alongside promoting the state’s cultural heritage, the government is moving ahead with plans to establish dedicated Goa Bhavans at major religious destinations outside the state. In Ayodhya, land has already been acquired for the purpose, and the facility is expected to be operational next year, providing affordable accommodation to Goan pilgrims at half the usual rates. A similar project is being proposed at Velankanni, where the state is in the process of identifying suitable land to set up another Goa Bhavan.
Meanwhile, infrastructure for the arts within the state is also set for a boost. The Chief Minister revealed that the long-awaited renovation of Ravindra Bhavan in Margao will soon begin, with work orders to be issued shortly. Similar development plans are in place for Ravindra Bhavans in Curchorem, Sanquelim, Canacona, and Vasco, aimed at strengthening Goa’s cultural spaces and supporting local talent.
