PANAJI: The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) has launched an investigation into allegations that a Deputy Conductor and a Supervisor at the Mapusa HSSC examination centre assisted students during an ongoing examination. Both officials have been temporarily barred from participating in any further examination duties pending the outcome of the inquiry.
Board Chairman Bhagirath Shetye confirmed that the action follows a formal complaint regarding irregularities during the mathematics paper held on Tuesday. The complaint, filed by a candidate along with her parents, alleged that the Deputy Conductor, who also teaches mathematics, helped his own commerce stream students with answers. The Supervisor, reportedly from the same school, was also implicated.
“Preliminary findings prompted us to relieve both officials from duty immediately. An official inquiry has been initiated to examine the allegations,” Shetye said.
Notices have been issued directing the Deputy Conductor and the Supervisor to appear before the Board’s Malpractice Committee this week to provide explanations. A concurrent internal investigation will also be conducted to assess the situation in detail.
Addressing the role of students allegedly involved, Shetye stated that no immediate action will be taken against them. “It was the responsibility of the students to refuse any assistance. However, they chose to benefit from it,” he added.
The Board has assured that appropriate steps will be taken based on the inquiry’s findings to uphold the integrity of the examinations.
