Panaji:In a significant move toward strengthening climate resilience, the Goa government has installed three indigenous Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) under the National Mission for Strategic Knowledge on Climate Change (NMSKCC). These stations, developed in collaboration with BITS Pilani Goa, are located at the Goa State Biodiversity Board (GSBB), the Secretariat, and the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB), and are currently undergoing real-time data validation.
Environment Minister Aleixo Sequeira informed the Legislative Assembly that the stations are part of the broader effort under the State Action Plan for Climate Change (SAPCC), which includes vulnerability and climate impact assessments at the village level. These assessments, which help identify climate-sensitive areas and inform adaptation strategies, are publicly available on the Goa Climate Change Cell’s website.
While no formal MoUs have been signed yet with national agencies like NABARD, ICAR, or ISRO, the minister said the state has been engaging in extensive public outreach activities. These include training programs, workshops, and meetings with Coastal Biodiversity Management Committees (CBMCs), aimed at raising awareness and supporting local-level implementation of climate action measures.
The initiative reflects the state’s ongoing efforts to build a robust climate governance framework grounded in real-time data, grassroots engagement, and scientific collaboration.
