PANAJI: Forest Minister Vishwajit Rane today said that Goa has brought 3,500 survey numbers of mangroves under protected areas, as part of a larger conservation push aligned with the Centre’s Mangrove Initiative for Shoreline Habitats & Tangible Incomes (MISTHI).
Rane, who met Union Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav, said the state will now tap into MISTHI funds for strengthening mangrove conservation.
He added that Goa is also preparing a Forest Management Plan, a tree plantation drive of five lakh trees under ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’, promotion of eco-tourism in forest belts, and a scientific conclave on conservation with Yadav’s participation.
“Goa must safeguard its resources for future generations while ensuring their sustainable use for development. Conservation is the wise use of nature and natural resources,” Rane said, stressing that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership has placed strong emphasis on climate action, mangrove protection and sustainable forestry.
