PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today said that the State Cabinet has approved a scheme to support pvt organizations providing palliative care to terminal cancer patients.
“Cabinet approves scheme to support pvt organizations providing palliative care to terminal cancer patients; monthly grants of Rs 2.5L to be provided to such centres; minimum 20 in-patients must,” said Sawant.
A study, by GMC head of the department of community medicine and professor Dr Jagadish Cacodkar and assistant lecturer Dr Mahika Naik in 2019-2021, said that there were only two set-ups – Shanti Avedena by Missionaries of Charities in Loutolim and Dilasa by Indian Medical Association (IMA) Goa, Ponda – in the entire state, that provided a palliative care facility.
As per the information, Outpatient palliative services are available at the district hospital to people of any age, with any serious illness and at any stage of their illness.
The services are available from Monday to Saturday between 10 am to 12 noon, to provide patients and their families with information and skills to manage the impact of their illness on their daily.
