Panaji: The Goa Cabinet today approved several key decisions aimed at financial relief, educational development, and cultural commemoration, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced.
Under the loan relief measure, around 500 beneficiaries from the SC and OBC communities who had availed loans through the SC & OBC Corporation will now repay only the principal amount, ranging from ₹5,000 to ₹10,000, with the interest burden of ₹3.2 crore waived. Many beneficiaries were facing court cases due to loan defaults.
In education, the Cabinet approved the Goa Institute of Management (GIM) Private University Bill 2026, allowing the institute—previously operating as a transit campus in Sanquelim—to gain full private university status. The Bill is set to be tabled in the State Assembly soon.
On cultural and infrastructure matters, the Cabinet granted post-facto approval of ₹16 crore spent on the Birsa Munda birth anniversary programme, and ₹4.5 crore for repairs and renovation of Ravindra Bhavan, Margao. Additionally, approval was given for the disposal of 5% of UTL for GPBL.
The Chief Minister highlighted that these measures reflect the government’s focus on financial support for marginalized communities, educational growth, and preservation of cultural heritage.
