Dona Paula: Goa Cancer Society and Make a wish Foundation-India with support of the Office of Honourable Governor of Goa organised a unique program “In the Garden of dreams: Nurturing Hope for young hearts, dedicated towards fulfilling the wishes of little fighters on 16th of March at Darbar hall Raj Bhavan Dona-paula Goa.
The program was attended by His Excellency Shri P.S . Sreedharan Pillai, Honourable Governor of Goa, Mr Shrinivas Dempo, noted industrialist and President of Goa Cancer Society, Ms Meher, Director of Make a Wish Foundation India, Dr. Anupama Borkar Chief of Department of medical Oncology Goa Medical College, Dr Suresh B Shetye, Vice-president Goa Cancer Society, Dr Mahesh Naik, Secretary Goa Cancer Society.
Dr Shekhar Salkar, Jt. Secretary of Goa Cancer Society welcomed the gathering and expressed gratitude towards the Honourable Governor of Goa for being part of the event, the highlight of the function was granting the wishes of young little fighters who have been successfully triumphing against all odds.
His Excellency Governor of Goa Shri P.S. Sreedharan Pillai, in his speech expressed happiness towards non-governmental organisations like Goa cancer society and Make a wish India Foundation for taking up such initiatives, he announced that the office of the Governor is committed towards the welfare of fellows Goans, He added that various steps have been undertaken in the past to help needy patients who are diagnosed with Cancer and diabetes. He also appealed to the state government to upgrade infrastructure in healthcare facilities so that the people of Goa don’t have to visit outside states for advance treatments.
Mr Shrinivas Dempo in his inaugural speech said that that we have a social responsibility, constitutional opportunity, and moral obligation to support each other and wish every coming true empowers us to strengthen our resolve against any fight, today’s event marks an collective effort by Goa Cancer Society, Office of The honourable Governor of Goa and Make a Wish Foundation as we gather today to celebrate the perseverance of human determination, the kids who have joined us today are the testimony of endurance and triumph against the odds each one is a champion and a hero.
He further added that Goa Cancer Society is committed towards the welfare of fellow Goans especially who are in distress due to medical calamity, our sustained initiatives are directed towards ensuring support and assistance, Mr Dempo extended gratitude to His Excellency , P.S. Sreedharan Pillai for associating with Goa Cancer Society and Make a Wish Foundation to make today’s event a aspiration for us to work harder in ensuring all wishes come true.
Dr Shekar Salkar, who coordinated the program undertook the fund donation ceremony in which cheque of Rupees One Lakh was handed over to the goa cancer society by his excellency governor mr Pillai Ji to be used for granting wishes of children suffering from cancer, thalasaemia , congenital heart desease etc. . another two cheques of Rupees One and Half Lakh was donated by Goa Cancer Society and mr Shrinivas dempo respectively were made to make a wish foundation for the same cause . a total number of 11 young beneficiaries and fighters attended the program. Their wishes were granted as a token of respect towards their resilience in fight against the disease. The kids received variety of gifts from bicycles, battery operated cars and other toys the smile on the faces of the young fighters was the testimony of the success of the event.
