PANAJI: Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant voiced his concern today about the difficult times facing Konkani publications, citing the closure of several due to a lack of support.
Sawant urged everyone to fight together in support of Konkani publications during his speech at the 38th Raaj Bhaas Dis celebration. According to him, the main goals should be to boost readership and guarantee the language’s survival.
As an illustration of how people might support the language’s advancement, he also discussed his personal practice of reading Konkani newspapers.
Sawant emphasized the value of Konkani in Goa, pointing out that the government has decided to make it a component of the Goa Staff Selection Commission exam.
He clarified that although many applicants fared well in other subjects, those with lesser Konkani scores could not pass it.
Sawant further noted that Konkani has gained national significance as a result of its inclusion in the Indian Constitution’s 8th Schedule. He reassured the populace that the government is not just concerned with Goa’s historical heritage but also with the future of Konkani and its people.
Sawant revealed that he had met individuals and organizations committed to conserving and advancing Konkani while traveling throughout India, from Kochi to Delhi.
He praised the numerous individuals outside of Goa who are putting in a lot of effort to preserve the language and make it more widely known.
