Sankhali: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant today said the Goa government has provided 100 per cent compensation to all farmers who applied for relief after suffering crop losses due to unseasonal rains.
He assured farmers that the state remains committed to supporting the agricultural community and strengthening the sector under the Swayampurna Goa 2.0 vision.
The Chief Minister was speaking at a programme held at Ravindra Bhavan, Sankhali, where the Directorate of Agriculture distributed crop compensation sanction letters under the Shetkari Adhar Nidhi scheme to farmers affected by erratic weather conditions. The sanction letters were formally handed over by Dr Sawant.
Addressing farmers, the Chief Minister urged them to diversify into cash crops and adopt community farming, while also promoting agriculture, horticulture, and floriculture to ensure sustainable growth and better income opportunities.
He said these initiatives are essential to making Goa self-reliant in the agricultural sector and achieving the goals of Swayampurna Goa 2.0.
Under the compensation drive, the Goa government has disbursed ₹3.70 crore to 3,950 farmers in Bicholim taluka, covering losses caused by unseasonal rains that adversely impacted crops and livelihoods.
Dr Sawant reiterated that the government is fully prepared to extend all necessary assistance to farmers and will continue to stand by them in times of distress.
