DELHI: Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF) Bhupendra Yadav today has assured to resolve Goa’s critical issues pertaining to ESA notification, sand mining and Coastal Zone Management Plan.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Environment Minister Aleixo Sequeira today held a meeting with MoEF Bhupendra Yadav in New Delhi.
“During this meeting, we discussed several critical issues concerning our State, including the ESA notification, Sand Mining, Mining Transport, and the Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) for Goa,” said Sawant
Sawant also extended his gratitude to the Union Minister for his assurance to address and resolve these pressing issues.
It may be recalled that the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) was given a three-month deadline by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) to resolve any discrepancies in the CZMP 2011.
This directive was given towards the end of February. These differences were ascribed to inconsistencies with state survey plans and emerged after the maps were distributed at a 1:4,000 scale.
After finding problems with the maps that NCSCM had provided, the GCZMA asked that the Union Ministry of Environment (MoEF) release the recommendations.
NGT proposed that after the NCSCM resolved the discrepancies, the CZMP maps would be corrected and that the MoEF’s suggestion would guide future actions.
