CANACONA: Congratulating Canconcars, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant urged people to welcome the new Kushavati district, saying it would bring all-round development to the region. Speaking at the concluding function of Adi Lukosthav-25, Sawant said Kushavati will be among the 120 Aspirational Districts recognised by the Central Government, opening new avenues for infrastructure, tourism, human resource development and employment.
He said the formation of Kushavati has been welcomed by Canacona, Sanguem, Quepem and Dharbandora talukas. “A new district means assured development — a separate collectorate, SP office, district hospital, medical college, skill development centre, rural development office and many new opportunities for youth and women,” Sawant said, adding that even officers from Canacona could one day head the district.
The Chief Minister also informed that a demand of ₹500 crore has been placed with the Centre for infrastructure and overall development of Kushavati district, which will include a new road from Canacona to the district headquarters. He said Minister Ramesh Tawadkar will make presentations to explain the benefits of joining the new district, stressing that inclusion in Kushavati is a major opportunity that Canconcars should not miss.
