PANAJI: The Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, inaugurated a workshop on Exploring the Intersection of Law and Society titled Cyber Security and Cyber Laws at Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Sanquelim.
The Deputy Solicitor General of India Pravin Faldessai as the Guest of Honour was also present on the occasion.
The workshop was organised by the Department of Political Science of the Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Sanquelim, in collaboration with the Directorate of Higher Education, Directorate of Equal Opportunity Cell, Manohar Parrikar School of Law, Governance and Public Policy Legal Aid Cell, and UGC Centre for the Study of Social Inclusion of D.D. Kosambi School of Social Sciences and Behavioural Studies.
Addressing the audience, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant highlighted the importance of cyber security and its growing relevance in the age of smartphones and digitalization.
He elaborated on the Goa government’s efforts to provide free Wi-Fi zones and the launch of transformative digital initiatives aimed at creating robust cyber infrastructure. He stated that Goa is one of the first states in India to provide cyber infrastructure.
Acknowledging the challenges posed by the misuse of technology, the Chief Minister emphasized the need for widespread awareness of digital skills.
He also highlighted the significance of the Constitution and urged the participants to draw inspiration from it. In his address, he paid tribute to the 150th anniversary of the national song Vande Mataram and encouraged students to engage with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Mann Ki Baat to stay informed about national progress.
The keynote address was delivered by Pravin Faldessai, who eloquently spoke on the topic India’s Unwavering Commitment Towards Democracy, Justice, and Equality. His speech provided a profound understanding of India’s legal and democratic framework, inspiring the audience to reflect on the country’s constitutional values.
The workshop continued with three technical sessions conducted by subject matter experts. Adv. Eeshan Usapkar, Advocate at the High Court, spoke on the intricacies of cybercrime, shedding light on various threats and preventive measures.
The second session was led by Prof. Dr. Ramrao Naik Karmali from Goa University, who focused on cyber security, offering insights into safeguarding digital assets.
The final session, delivered by Ms. Riddhi Dicholkar, Assistant Professor at the Manohar Parrikar School of Law, Governance and Public Policy, explored the theme Cyber Crime and Youth: How Do We Protect Ourselves Online, addressing the specific vulnerabilities faced by young internet users.
