Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant held a high-level meeting with senior Goa Police officials on Wednesday night to assess the law and order situation in the wake of the Baina dacoity and the St Cruz burglary, both still under investigation.
Sawant directed police to intensify night patrols, increase nakabandis at strategic locations and carry out random checks to deter further offences. He said officers have been told to improve detection and ensure such incidents do not recur.
He added that the government may consider invoking the National Security Act if needed to curb rising criminal activity.
The review meeting was attended by DGP Alok Kumar, the IGP, all district superintendents, deputy superintendents and police inspectors. The discussion focused on strengthening enforcement, increasing visible policing and speeding up probes.
Sawant said he is confident that both cases will be solved soon. The St Cruz burglary, in which thieves fled with cash and gold worth about twenty-five lakh rupees, remains under inquiry.
Officials also examined long-term measures, including deploying additional personnel and tightening enforcement to reduce road accidents.
