PANAJI: Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant has urged Communidade office-bearers and other institutions to extend cooperation in legalising homes occupied by residents for over four decades.
He clarified that the move was not aimed at regularising illegal constructions, but at ensuring the right of the common man to live in his own house legally. He also assured that steps would be taken to prevent future irregularities.
Sawant announced that the Kunbi village project in Sanguem would be completed within three months. He further said that Goa’s economic progress depended on large industries and stressed that the government would continue to encourage employment-generating green industries through the Investment Promotion Board.
Highlighting achievements of the “double engine government,” Sawant said robust infrastructure had been developed in health, education, sports, and other sectors, while efforts were on to deliver governance at people’s doorstep. He said the government’s vision for Viksit Bharat would be built on the hopes and aspirations of Goans.
On employment, the CM said skill-based courses were being implemented across 13 ITIs to strengthen manpower for the hospitality sector. The Chief Minister’s Apprenticeship Policy had already benefited 27,000 youth, he added. For women’s empowerment, several schemes were being implemented through the Rural Development Agency.
Sawant also said that land ownership rights had finally been granted to the aboriginal Goan ST community after years of deprivation. Daily wage workers in government offices had been given temporary status along with special increments in recognition of their contribution to the state’s development.
Underscoring the focus on education, Sawant announced plans for a new school complex in Margao, on the lines of the Cujira complex. He noted that Goa University’s recent A+ NAAC accreditation was a testament to the state’s progress in higher education.
He said land had been acquired within the university campus to house institutions such as the Goa College of Pharmacy, College of Fine Arts, College of Home Science, College of Architecture, and College of Music.
