PANAJI: In the midst of growing speculation about the BJP potentially contesting the 2027 Goa Assembly elections without its traditional allies, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday reiterated the party’s goal of securing a minimum of 27 seats.
Speaking at the North Goa karyakarta sammelan, Sawant stated that to achieve this target, the BJP must garner over 52 per cent of the total vote share.
He called on party workers to adopt a focused and systematic approach, emphasizing the need to promote the BJP’s governance record over the past decade, both at the state and central levels.
Sawant’s comments come amid signs of strain in the BJP’s alliance with the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP), particularly following recent meetings between the Dhavalikar brothers and senior BJP leaders in Delhi.
Tensions became more apparent when the chief minister publicly asserted BJP’s claim over the Priol constituency, suggesting that alliance partners must either accept the party’s stance or consider breaking away.
He also expressed confidence in the BJP’s chances in Mandrem, a seat currently held by the MGP, declaring that “the lotus will bloom in Mandrem” in the upcoming elections. Despite the sharp remarks, both parties have publicly denied any discord within the alliance.
